Interesting read. Definitely not as good as Bemis' "Polarity", but it has its moments and a couple good twists that you'll see coming a mile away, but still satisfying in their execution. Excited to see what the next volume brings.

About the Author

Keith J. Karren, Ph.D., EMT-B, is professor of Health Sciences at Brigham Young University, where he teaches First Aid and related courses. He is also the director of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), an educational service that offers continuing education for EMS personnel. He has been active in higher education for over 37 years, is the author of numerous EMS publications, and is an organizer of key EMS conferences.

Daniel Limmer, NREMT-P, is a faculty member at Eastern Manie Community College in Bangor, Maine. He has been involved in EMS and law enforcement for over 28 years and still practices as a paramedic with Kennebunk Fire Rescue in Kennebunk, Maine. Dan is a frequent lecturer at conferences and colleges nationwide. He is a co-author of several textbooks, including Emergency Care, Essentials of Emergency Care, Advanced Medical Life Support, and First Responder: A Skills Approach.

Joseph J.Mistovich, M.Ed, NREMT-P, is chair of the Department of Health Professions and a professorat Youngstown State University, Ohio. He has more than 22 years of experience as an educator in emergency medical services and multidisciplinary health care. He received a Master of Education degree from Kent State University, a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science degree and an Associate in Applied Science degree in Emergency Medical Services, both from Youngstown State University. He has authored several EMS textbooks and numerous EMS articles. He is a frequent speaker at state and national conferences.

Randall Benner, M.Ed, NREMT-P, is a contributing author to this edition. He is the director of the Emergency Medical Technology program at Youngstown State University, where he teaches courses in psychoneuroimmunology, behavior change, and health psychology. He has authored and co-authored numerous texts, several with Joe Mistovich, and is a prime organizer of a major EMS annual conference held in Salt Lake City.

Great book full of good information!

This book is full of really good information and will be helpful not only in my college course, but will continue to be a good reference outside of the classroom when dealing with real-life situations. My only concern was that the book didn't come in the condition I thought it would; when it says the book is in "very good" condition, I would expect an almost like-new copy, not one that is very, very tattered on the front cover. Anyway, this book is useful and the wear-and-tear is minimal, especially in essence to how much use I will get out of it.

I ended up getting a B in the class overall, it's a book full of tons of useful and relevant information to today's first aid needs. There is more information then what I though would be in there originally. It's a very hands on book which I liked a lot

Everything in here is great but it's such overkill - you will get the ...

Everything in here is great but it's such overkill - you will get the same certification from a 6 hour CPR first aid class as you will get from reading this textbook and taking a college class. You may be more prepared to provide aid, but you will have no more say in patient care than the dude who did it on a weekend. If you are so interested that you want to take a class, take an EMT class instead - apply your knowledge and broaden your scope.

This is just a weirdly scanned book, with no formatting, no ability to text search, etc. Seriously, If you're going to sell a scanned book, maybe work on the formatting, convert it to text, etc.

A True Wrestling Classic

While some of the spelling and grammer mistakes are glaring, reflecting it's plublishing date of 1912, a lack of editor, or both, this is quite possibly the single most important wrestling book ever writen. It's compatable with sport, self defense or Professional wrestling, even taking wrestling to a lifestyle equal to any modern martial art. From simplistic but effective locking and take down techniques to subtle yet ingenious transitions and holds this book is a must for the begining or experienced wrestler, covering both the stand up and ground elements, concepts of stamina and endurance, tempo and strategy equal to any classical fencing teacher, a focus on internal health ewual to any tai Chi or Qi Gung master, cross training with boxing to form a true mixed martial art, even practical self defense techniques, though all using somewhat date terminology " be ON TIME" " use your MENTAL STUFF", etc. The picture qulaity is very good considering it's time though you don't get multiple angles. It also features illustrations on workouts to help build a strong body and the man's philosophy not only of wrestling but of living a healthy, happy life as a wrestler. Truely a treasure at the level of Rick Flair and Larry the legend.

Awful, and that's not doing the book any justice of how awful it is

The kindle version, which is the one I have is a photo copy of an really old book with awful blurry pictures and barely readable fonds. Horrible photo copies as well, you can still see the folds and the crinkles on the pages of the copies. Would not recommend to even my worse enemies.

Impressive weight loss memoir

I saw Caroline Jhingory in an Ebony magazine article on weight loss. I was intrigued by her quote that she is a recovering food addict that has taken her "passion for food from a dirty love affair to a committed relationship of self-control." I love that and it scratched me where I itch b/c I consider myself the same, a recovering food addict.

Actually, I'm not sure I'm recovering. I make some strides in self-control and then end up in the dirty love affair again. I need to lose about 50 pounds.

Caroline's story is so, so inspiring. I loved how she shared from her childhood, about her hurts at losing 2 dear cousins in a car accident as well as the loss of her dad's companionship after her parents' divorce. And how these losses intensified her turning to emotional eating, bingeing on food, and brought on depression. I could relate so much of her story and was so happy to have found her book.

In the end, though, as truly happy as I am for her that she has found a method of losing and maintaining weight that works for her, I just feel that it's not realistic for the majority of people. It just isn't. Definitely not for me. (Full disclosure: I am fat. I am fat for a reason. I'm not willing to count calories, fat grams, points, or anything of the sort. I'm also not willing to eat as Caroline did and does. That's why I'm fat and she's not! I love to exercise but you can't out-exercise a bad diet, I'm proof of that.)

Caroline is also not willing to count anything and so has held to the 2 following weight loss strategies that helped her lose all that weight and keep it off (I'm not giving anything away in the book; this info is on her website as well):

1) she eats ONLY lean proteins and non-starchy vegetables. That's it.

2) she eats nothing containing or made with flour, sugar, milk, wheat, rice, dairy, fruit, nuts or beans.

Caroline makes it clear throughout the book a few times that she is not saying everyone should eat this way. It just worked for her. I think for a single person like herself, it could be more attainable to eat this way. Of course, anyone even in a large family determined to make it work could do it, but it's possibly more convenient if you're single.

For me, though, that's quite a bit drastic. I can't see myself eating veggies and chicken and eggs at every meal. But this is what worked for her. She's young, though, and if she were my daughter, I'd worry about her getting enough nutrients. She doesn't mention anything about vitamins or multivitamins, so I don't know if they figure into her plan.

She does take a teaspoon of cinnamon in the mornings and a tablespoon of ground flax before bedtime.

Again, she found something that worked for her and I'm happy for her that she made it work. She is a clearly intelligent and beautiful young lady and I wish her the best.

I would have given the book 4 stars but I just felt that it was all over the place. I enjoyed the beginning as she looked at her childhood but then before you knew it, she was in college and making the decision to lose the weight, and then, just as suddenly, she lost it. I would have liked to have heard more about the process she went through.

Also, I don't really like it when writers--regardless of their ethnic/racial background--make statements like "Black girls shouldn't eat carbs" and about how she went shopping in the 'hood for her veggies. I don't know, it bugged me.

Relateable experience

What I absolutely love about this book is that Caroline's story is completely relatable, here's someone who lost half her weight and kept it off for 10 years!!! All by doing exactly what she stated in this book....what blows me away is how simple it is. Great job and I'll be putting these steps in motion!!

This book is a must buy!

I started my weight loss journey January 7, 2013 and have lost 10 lbs with walking and experimenting with Clean Eating. I read her article in Fitness magazine and became obsessed (in a good way) instantly reading her blog and following her on Instagram, Twitter, & FaceBook. I got the book, read it in one day and started her plan the next day. As of now I am on Day 3 and I have lost 5.2 lbs! People are telling me once you introduce carbs, sugars, and grains back into your diet you will gain that weight back but um...I don't plan on it! I keep this book in my purse, it's like my Bible..even got the most important chapters bookmarked! It's such an easy read, it made me laugh from the 10 Commandments to her educating me about what sugar, alcohol, & carbs do to your body. She keeps it 100...feels like I'm reading a book that my big sister wrote! If your not organized and looking for a quick fix, this book is not for you...this plan is forever! Take care and good luck on your journey...much luv =)!

David John Seear C.Eng CMarEng FIMarEST FCQI CQP is a Chartered Engineer who spent 12 years at sea ending up as Chief Engineer with a combined First Class Chief Engineers certificate before leaving and joining Shell. He left Shell U.K after 20 years service where he had been Head Of Quality and Performance for Shell UK Materials. One of the departments reporting to him was Quality Appraisal whose purpose was to carry out 2nd party audits for Shell UK and Shell den Hague. He represented the CBI on BSI QMS 22 for 6 years and represented the U.K. on ISO 9000 TC 176 for 3 years. He was a member of the Standards Development Group (SDG) in the U.K and attempted to encourage the SDG to justify the changes against the scope of the standard under review. Some recent changes to quality standards had no real justification for the changes that had been made. In fact some recent changes are now seen to be counterproductive. He has lived in Brunei and Abu Dhabi and carried out Audits and/or Training throughout the world including Africa, North and South America, Russia as well as the areas lived in namely the Far East (e.g. Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei) and was the regional manager for a Certification Body based in the Middle East working in UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain to name just a few of the countries he was responsible for.
