A delightful, funny book

This is one of the most delightful children's books ever. I listened to my mom (Ann)read the Paddington books to my younger brother and was hooked. When I was younger, I remember my mom telling me about the bear on tv who liked marmalade but was never interested in him until I heard the stories. The stories often ended in tears- we would laugh so much. Well, I guess this is less of a review than it is a recommendation. With all of the worthless children's literature out there, this one stands out.

Classic story of Paddington the Bear who comes to live with the Brown family in London. Most children know the stuffed animal but haven't heard the escapades. This issus is a welcome addition to children's libraries. Very good, humorous, fun animals, with good black and white illustrations. Recommended for K through the 4th grade students.

So there is not only Pooh Bear!

My daughter read this book for school and truly enjoyed it. Although only 8 and there were some challenging words and concepts, she was enamored with Paddington and all his silly antics. Now the stuffed animal has better meaning for all of us at home.

Seriously, this book sucks. It still only has the even answers! And most of the solutions aren't explanations at all. This book assumes that you already know A LOT.

Far more often than not, I look at the back of the textbook and look at the answer, but I may not know how they came by said answer. So I head to the solutions manual for answers, only to see the exact same answer and read a short statement like "denominator has been simplified". Umm...what does that mean?? I need to know how the problem was SOLVED. A better answer would be something like "Use difference quotient to solve, then simplify answer by factoring numerator and denominator to remove radicals". That tells me a good place to start and how to simplify to obtain a final result. As it is, this book is almost totally useless to me. It's very rare that it's actually helpful.

If you are like me, just checking the answer in tha back of the book does not really help if your answer does not match the book. This solutions manual has the odd numbered problems completely worked out. It made studying so much easier by showing me where I went off track. A must have if you are buying the text!

Couldn't grasp Calculus if it wasn't for this manual

I was required to take Calculus and was dreading the class due to my weak math background. If it wasn't for this book, I wouldn't have been able to figure out most of the problems. It helped me tremendously and it helped me get an A in Calc. MUST BUY!

In 1865, his humorous story, "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County", was published, based on a story he heard at Angels Hotel in Angels Camp, California, where he had spent some time as a miner. The short story brought international attention, and was even translated into classic Greek. His wit and satire, in prose and in speech, earned praise from critics and peers, and he was a friend to presidents, artists, industrialists, and European royalty. Though Twain earned a great deal of money from his writings and lectures, he invested in ventures that lost a great deal of money, notably the Paige Compositor, a mechanical typesetter, which failed because of its complexity and imprecision. In the wake of these financial setbacks, he filed for protection from his creditors via bankruptcy, and with the help of Henry Huttleston Rogers eventually overcame his financial troubles. Twain chose to pay all his pre-bankruptcy creditors in full, though he had no legal responsibility to do so. Twain was born shortly after a visit by Halley's Comet, and he predicted that he would "go out with it", too. He died the day after the comet returned. He was lauded as the "greatest American humorist of his age", and William Faulkner called Twain "the father of American literature". Twain began his career writing light, humorous verse, but evolved into a chronicler of the vanities, hypocrisies and murderous acts of mankind. At mid-career, with Huckleberry Finn, he combined rich humor, sturdy narrative and social criticism. Twain was a master at rendering colloquial speech and helped to create and popularize a distinctive American literature built on American themes and language. Many of Twain's works have been suppressed at times for various reasons. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has been repeatedly restricted in American high schools, not least for its frequent use of the word "nigger", which was in common usage in the pre-Civil War period in which the novel was set.
