This book should be required reading on every syllabus in every school and in every discipline. Maureen Linker clarifies the importance of intellectual empathy and critical thinking for social justice in an insightful, concise, thorough way. The reader will identify with the dilemma of thinking about, articulating, and discussing emotionally difficult issues of race, class, and culture in our society. By tackling the subject directly, unflinchingly, and with empathy, Linker demonstrates exactly how important our cognitive and emotional approach to social discourse is. And best of all, she gives us a solution oriented path to understanding. Linker's writing style is fast paced, never repetitive or redundant, and remarkably accessible for such a dense subject matter. Linker discusses abstract philosophical and psychological concepts thoroughly and engagingly. This book is at the top of my list for gift giving. You're welcome everyone I know :)
